Let The Writing Frenzy Begin!

It’s been 3 years since I did National Novel Writing Month (affectionately referred to as NaNoWriMo — gotta love acronyms), but I didn’t actually get through the entire month to reach the 50,000 novel length. If I remember correctly, I made it about halfway. Not bad considering I’d never done something so intensive before. Still, it was amazing to write with that level of regularity; every day, hunched over my laptop trying to get my story moving gave me a huge rush that perhaps I did have what it took to create a full-length novel.

So, here I am again… older and presumably wiser. Presumably. I’ve come to the conclusion that preparation and support during November are incredibly key. Many of us have regular day jobs, so what writing we do has to be done before/after hours, on tablets/smartphones while traveling to and from work… and on weekends. Yeah. For my region in New York City, they do write-in events which I fully intend to participate in this time around. I know for sure I’ll be at the November 1st write-in at Whole Foods Tribeca and several of the Brooklyn write-in events, depending on their location.

My plan is always as follows:

  1. Ask myself: “Self, what the heck are you gonna write?”
  2. Create the outline for the story, chapter by chapter
  3. Plan out exactly when I will be writing (set the time in the calendar)
  4. Eat well and healthy (because writing for 4 hours without drinking water, eating a snack or not peeing is never a good thing)
  5. Exercise! (Like my trainer would actually let me off the hook.. smh)

This needs to happen, folks. This novel is BEGGING to be written. Want to follow my writing on the National Novel Writing Month site? Check it out:

So, to those of you taking part in NaNoWriMo this time around, GOOD LUCK!! We’re gonna need it! Embrace the insanity!

The November Gameplan

I’ve been ramping up to the goings-on for November and there is a lot planned. First, I’ve got NaNoWriMo. It is a great opportunity and challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. The story is going to be part of my long-standing planned trilogy romance. I will be talking constantly about this in person, online… just about everywhere.

Second is studying for my Japanese proficiency test. I’ve seen the results of my current study and I’m pleased with the progress. My efforts are going to be kicked up two notches so that I do really well on this N3 test. I don’t just want to pass it; I want to pass it with a great grade. I ask for the help of all my Japanese speaking friends to make this a reality! お願いします!

Lastly is personal training. I knew the only way for me to lose this weight was to engage the help of a professional. I listed this last because I can do both of the above things while I work out, which is awesome! I’m realistic in knowing the weight isn’t going to disappear overnight, but I feel confident that with some time, the results will speak for themselves. This kind of thing is a lifestyle change more than anything else.

Of course, in order for all this this to happen, I have to set myself up to win. Strong scheduling, limiting distractions and staying committed to this road are the keys. I know I can do this and have every confidence it will turn out with great results.

How awesome a birthday at the end of November I will have knowing all this! I’m psyched.

Let’s play! ^_^

National Novel Writing Month! Nov 1-30

Otherwise known as NaNoWriMo, it’s the time of the year when life comes to screeching halt in order to create that 50,000 word novel. I’ve been toying with doing it for a couple of years now and it’s just time to get it done. What this means is, that for the entire month of November, I will get next to no sleep and will be working my butt off every day to keep the pace. Sacrifices will be worth it!!!

What? You’ve never HEARD of this? Go check it out: http://www.nanowrimo.org

That means (aside from my birthday on the 25th), no drinking, partying, no hanging out (with some minor exceptions – gotta see my mom!), no working late or ANY of that. As a matter of fact, I’m going to configure my Galaxy S (luv Droid!) to transcribe my words while I work out. I’m SERIOUS. Four hours of sleep? Generous; that’ll have to do. I’ll probably save a lot of money in the process too.

And now, I’m going to put together my outline and decide on my characters…

Write with me!! Add me as your buddy so we can kick each others butt!
