Herman and I were talking about philosophy and religion related stuff. He mentioned a professor that posed this question… and I pose that same question to you:
You all remember the show “Star Trek”, where people got transported from one place to another, their bodies dematerialized and transmitted to another location where they are reformed.
The question: is that person that is transported the EXACT SAME person that left the ship?
You could run with it I suppose. There’s no way that each and every molecule of your being can be reset in the exact formation it was before it was dematerialized. But you could argue it isn’t the corporeal form that matters, but the more tangible things — one’s personality, intelligence, etc etc — that hasn’t changed. Gosh, it’s an argument that makes my head hurt a little bit. But I like that! So what do you think?
